A Dozen Writing Prompts for People with Writer's Block
- What is your spirit animal?
- Write about whatever food you're craving right now in as much detail as possible. Why do you want it? Why do you love it?
- Write about the stars.
- Write about why you can't write.
- Write a letter to [insert inanimate object of your choice]. Write a letter back to yourself from [the object].
- Keep a pad of sticky-notes on hand. Write sticky-note poems as the spirit moves you.
- Take your favorite character from your writing. Write their death.
- Rewrite your last book in the form of a poem. It can be a haiku or an epic.
- If you could tell your character one thing, what would it be a) after the first chapter they appear in, b) after the first book they appear in, and c) after you're done with them and they won't appear again?
- Create five new characters on the spot.
- Complete the sentence: "I am in love with...." Fill in the blank with anything you want.
- Answer this question as spontaneously and truthfully as possible: Why do you write? Give several answers.
