Epistolary Poetry

Dear September Clover,
I hope my letter finds you well.
Is the square-shaped stone
Without moss
Where the dusty melon grows
Still your home?
If not, please send your new address

In your reply.
Yours,
Late Summer Fruit Fly.

An epistolary poem is a poem written in the form of a letter. The above example is one I made in an Indian summer about two years ago, when we had melons. I was inspired by Emily Dickinson's poem from a fly to a bee. Epistolary poetry is easy in concept (not a lot of rules) but hard in practice. They don't have to rhyme, there are no restrictions on meter (see my post 'Limerick'), and the only guideline is it has to be a letter from one person/thing to another. Finding inspiration and subject matter are the difficult parts. Try it.
