What Did You Say?

Sort-of Writing Prompt: Create a language. If you write fantasy stories, you may have already have several languages in progress. Good. If you've never made up a language before (which is doubtful, if you've ever been a child), then here are a few ideas:

  • You could just assign random nonsense-words to every word in your language, going through the dictionary entry by entry.
  • You can model your language after the Romance languages, or create an inflected language, with prefixes and suffixes.
  • You can exchange letter sounds for different combinations of letters.
  • You can hopelessly scramble the letters of words, phrases, or sentences, using a special pattern only you know.
There are prob'ly more ways, too. Once you have the beginnings of a language, have fun with it. Speak it, write it, label your school assignments with it, create a dictionary or grammar. Or scorn such orderly forms. There are no rules when it comes to making up a language.

Hello, fellow writers! I love it when we can inspire each other and help one another grow. With this in mind, keep it friendly and on-topic.
Have a great day! ;)
