Naming

Where does one get names, for characters, cities, countries, castles? Here are a few spots:
  • Genealogies in the Bible are full of the weirdest names you'll ever hear.
  • Mailboxes often have names written on their sides.
  • Street signs, because streets are often named after people.
  • Cemeteries. I always feel guilty about this one, but headstones have some great names on them.
  • Stories people tell, as long as the people in those stories are not famous or alive.
  • Names of things. I named a character Sharon after the Rose of Sharon.
  • A letter of the alphabet. Pick one at random and find a name that starts with it.
  • Stick two words together. Good for fantastical last names.
