Notes VII

 Tree Silence
Barren branches
Cheerful no more;
Their colors fallen
To the forest floor.

Altered Christmas Carol
Have yourself a lonely little Christmas
Your cooking part will be light
After all, your family will be out of sight.
Have yourself a lonely little Christmas
Make the yuletide gray
From now on our loved ones will be miles away
There we were, in the olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Will faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us, anymore?
Someday soon we all will be together,
If the state allows
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a lonely little Christmas
For now.

Cold Thoughts
It's hard to believe it was ever September,
Sitting apathetic in the frozen November,
Feet falling asleep in the frigid weather,
But glad to be here - glad to be together.

Noticed Change
Sun lights up the hill,
The American flag,
But doesn't quite reach
My crumpled book bag.
Two kids wear jackets,
Four wear sweaters,
None bare-armed,
Which is prob'ly better.
As Autumn fades,
Winter approaches:
A dark winter indeed
As the year closes.
