Two Themes

There are two themes a Christian book always has: Good versus evil, the battle between the forces of light and forces of darkness; and good and evil, the existence of both in one world that is inevitable due to sin. There is tension in each theme, naturally, but there is also a tension between the two themes: the first asks, "Will right win?" and the second, "Who is right?" In both cases, there is a struggle between light and darkness, but while "good versus evil" is often a physical fight in books, "good and evil" is a conflict in one's own mind between one's sinful nature and the light of Christ. When you think about it, it's not just Christian stories that always have these concepts: it's all stories. The protagonist and other well-developed characters face two battles: the one without and the one within, as they must overcome their character flaws to defeat the bad guy (or, when the bad guy is defeated, their experiences have eliminated their flaws). In both cases, the triumph of good in "good and evil" is requisite to the triumph of good in "good versus evil."

Next time you write, keep in mind the two themes: what must your character overcome, within himself and on the battlefield?

Hello, fellow writers! I love it when we can inspire each other and help one another grow. With this in mind, keep it friendly and on-topic.
Have a great day! ;)
